I know this is not going to be popular, but I am not a huge Metallica fan. I know JB Martell, Vince Steele, and Heavy Metal Momma are going to roll their eyes at me. Frankly, James Hatfield scares the heck out of me. He’s big, he’s hairy, and his voice is super aggressive. Yikes.
I do, however, have a great deal of respect for Metallica. They were formed in 1981 in California, and they have been labeled one of the big four thrash metal bands. They have sold more than 90 million records worldwide. They are icons to so many musicians! Still, despite my respect for them, I’m not a fan.
I know their hits. “Enter Sandman” gives me nightmares. “For Whom the Bell Tolls” makes me shiver. “I Am Evil” is, well, evil. One of the few songs I do like, more or less, is “The Day That Never Comes.” This is a great song about the struggles of military in Afghanistan. The music is awesome, and the video makes me cry. I still don’t really like James Hatfield’s singing though.
And that is the basic reason I do not like Metallica. They are amazing musicians, and I could listen to their music for hours. I like the rhythm, the beat, and the sound of the band. I just really find James Hatfield too intense for me. That’s just my opinion.
